Building Resilience in Africa: Plenser Limited’s Vision for Energy and Waste Management

In September 2024, the team at Plenser Limited had the privilege of participating in the 11th Annual East African Humanitarian Conference (EAHS) in Nairobi. Themed ”From Risk to Resilience: The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Disaster Management,” the event brought together over 600 delegates from the UN, NGOs and the private sector at the Trademark Hotel in Gigiri.

Our founder and CEO, Mr. Moses Kamau, sat down for an interview at the conference to share Plenser’s commitment to this vision. You can watch the full interview here: Interview with Mr. Moses Kamau, EAHS Nairobi 2024.

Here are the key takeaways from Mr. Kamau’s discussion and our experience at the summit.

Innovating for Impact: Our Core Solutions

In the interview, Mr. Kamau highlighted that Plenser Limited is dedicated to providing technologies that solve two critical challenges in the region: energy access and waste management.

  1. Solar Energy Solutions: We specialize in solar technology for water pumping and powering various units. In a region where reliable power is not a given, especially in humanitarian settings or remote development areas, these solutions ensure that water access and critical operations continue uninterrupted.
  2. Waste Incineration Technologies: We manufacture and supply incineration technologies to manage waste safely and efficiently. Proper waste management is a cornerstone of public health and environmental protection, and our technologies are designed to meet the rigorous demands of the African context.

The EAHS Nairobi 2024 Experience

The EAHS platform proved to be an exceptional venue for dialogue. Mr. Kamau expressed his satisfaction with the summit, specifically praising the presentations and the Q&A sessions, noting that they were done perfectly.

This sentiment echoes the overall feedback from the event, where participants like Mr. Ram Trivedi (Chief of Procurement, UN MINUSCA) noted that the panelists were well-selected and their engagement added great depth to the discussions. For Plenser, the engaging Q&A sessions were not just formalities; they were opportunities to understand the real-world procurement needs and operational challenges faced by aid organizations on the ground [citation: YouTube].

Why This Matters for Public-Private Partnerships

This year’s theme focused heavily on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in disaster management. As disasters become more frequent, the line between humanitarian aid and sustainable development blurs.

Dr. Ahmed Idris, Secretary-General of the Kenya Red Cross, opened the summit by stating, ”The private sector can support efforts to address humanitarian challenges by driving and financing innovative solutions for humanitarian work”. Plenser Limited embodies this principle. By offering durable solar and waste infrastructure, we are not just selling products; we are providing the tools necessary for long-term resilience.

Looking Ahead

Mr. Kamau concluded the interview on a hopeful note, stating his aspiration to have his team join in on the next 2025 event. For Plenser Limited, the connections made at EAHS Nairobi 2024 whether through the exhibition area or the one-on-one procurement meetings were just the beginning. We were energized by the quality of the conversations and remain committed to innovating for Africa.
